Title: Anise Shortbread Scotties

Yield: 48 Cookies

SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS; BOOK 4
1cButter; softened
1/2cSugar, powdered
1tsExtract, vanilla
1 1/2tsAnise seeds; crushed
1/4tsCinnamon, ground
2cFlour
TOPPING
  Sugar

Cream butter and sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla, anise, and cinnamon. Stir in flour. On lightly floured surface, use floured rolling pin to roll out dough to 1/4" thickness. Use Scottie pattern and paring knife if desired to cut out scottie dog shapes, or use cookie cutter. Transfer cookies to ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with sugar. Chill cookies 30 minutes before baking.

Preheat oven to 375 F. Bake cookies 5 minutes, reduce heat to 300 F, and bake 10 minutes more. Remove from pans and cool on wire racks.
